Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has dissolved the interim chairs of each of the state’s forty-four local government districts. Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement. The dissolution occurred one week after the state House of Assembly decided to extend their term by two months; it was originally scheduled to end on September 8. Legislators claim that the purpose of the extension was to maintain local government continuity. Elections for local government are slated for October 26.
The temporary chairmen have been instructed by Yusuf to transfer leadership to their respective Directors of Personnel Management. “This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors,” Yusuf said. He thanked the interim chairs for their contributions to the growth of their domains and made suggestions for possible future cooperation.
